Appendicitis
🚨 Symptoms
Periumbilical pain migrating to right lower quadrant, fever, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, rebound tenderness, guarding
🔍 Causes
Obstruction of appendix lumen by fecalith, lymphoid hyperplasia, foreign body, tumor; leading to bacterial overgrowth and inflammation
💊 Treatment
Surgical removal (appendectomy) - laparoscopic or open; IV antibiotics pre/post-op; pain management
📝 Nursing Care
Pre-operative: NPO, IV fluids, pain assessment; post-operative: wound care, monitor for complications (ileus, infection), early ambulation
