Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

🚨 Symptoms

Lower abdominal pain, fever, abnormal vaginal discharge, painful intercourse, irregular bleeding, dysuria

🔍 Causes

Ascending infection from sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia); also from childbirth, miscarriage, abortion, IUD insertion

💊 Treatment

Broad-spectrum antibiotics (often dual therapy), treat partner, hospitalization for severe cases, pain management, avoid intercourse during treatment

📝 Nursing Care

Monitor for complications (tubo-ovarian abscess), pain management, educate on treatment completion, partner notification, future fertility implications
